Starts singing: "Now this is a story all about how, my life got flipped-turned upside..." naw I'm just playin'. This is a story about love...duh! I know the title might have thrown a few noggins off just a little bit, but you'll get it soon enough.
It couldn't get any brighter in this bedroom, where a young man lays in a sleep so deep, that the Grand Canyon would lose if there was a comparison of depth. The room was muggy from the summer heat, due to the weakened power of an air conditioner aged to near extinction. It was cold in his room...was. Now it feels like the linens on his bed were hot enough to start a successful fish fry. That's why he suddenly woke up....his head was covered in sweat!
After brushing his teeth, and rinsing his face with ice cold water, this man named Elijah rushes to find his cell phone...worried about forgetting something extremely important. His heart beat races while he punches in a set of numbers, & cringing at the thought of the individual not picking up the phone. This day, and definitely this moment, is of EXTREME importance!
"Hello!"
"Yea Chel...Chelsea? You know what today is right? Did you forget that thing?"
"You know I got it! I always come through for my clients."
"Girl, you're the best! I'll be there to pick it up within an hour."
"Bet!"
Eli hangs up the phone with a smile on his face, and just as the smile appeared, it was about to get even wider. His phone rings with an oh so familiar ringtone; he picks up and prepares to speak to the 1 woman who makes him feel like a kid, without fail. We aren't talkin' about the kid who's always in trouble from their teacher or parents, but rather the kid who found their favorite toy at Toys R' Us, and is 2.5 seconds from a scream that would shatter fiber glass.

"Hi babe!"
"Good morning boo! I cannot wait to see you."
"Me more than you, I'm sure."
"You didn't forget what today is, did you?"
On the other end of the line is Elijah's girlfriend, Lauren. Her curiosity regarding her man's answer already peaked, because though they've been together for a good number of months; it's her first life celebration in a relationship in ages. She's hoping he remembers, or she'll be lobbing shoes at his head for the rest of the afternoon.
"Happy Birthday Lauren!"
She gasps in pure excitement! "You remembered!"
"You didn't think I'd forget, did you? Now get dressed. I'll be there in about an hour."
After some errands are run, and their brunch filled their stomachs to what feels like airplane cargo, the two romantics find themselves at a small coffee shop. Elijah parked his car across the street, and turns to his first lady; giving her the softest kiss her mind could ever imagine. She blushes, giggles, & speaks in a suddenly confounded tone.
"Sir why are we here? Neither of us drink coffee."
"One second babe. I'll be right back."
He plants a kiss on her forehead, and jogs out of the car. Lauren observes her now hasty boyfriend hurrying across the street. She watches as he steps into the shop, and walks over to a woman with curly, brown hair, that matches the color of beach sand. Her arms open up for a tight embrace, but as the hug is delivered by Elijah, the look of confusion Lauren has, becomes a look of strategy, and disappointment.
She turns to look to outside of the window next to her, and forget what she just saw. Questioning if her man truly wanted her, but there was no way he was being unfaithful to her...she thought. She must be overreacting! She hears the back door open up, and the slam quickly. Then, the driver side door opens....
"Aaah ah! Wait right there."
"Boo what's up? Lemme sit down."
"No!"
She darts out of the car, and closes the passenger side door, and circles to the driver side.
"Who's that woman you were huggin' on in the coffee shop? Is she a blood relative? You two are related right?"
Elijah sighs lightly, as Lauren's face scrunches up, and her expression tells him that he might not make it back to his apartment tonight.
"She's a business woman."
"What kind of business she got wit' you? This here ain't none of her business, and you better net make it any of hers..."
"Babe! Stop, and look in the back seat."
"You must take me for a blind..."
"BABE! LOOK IN THE BACK SEAT!"
After several unsuccessful attempts to stop Lauren's verbal annihilation, he grabs her shoulders, and turns her body around to look at the back passenger window. There's a medium sized box sitting in the seat.
"Honey, what is that?"
"It's your birthday present!"
"Oh my...."
Before another word is muttered, Lauren tosses the back door open. She slammed into Elijah's shoulder, just enough for him to let out a groan. He tries to toughen up, while she jumps into his arms, holding the ribbon from the already opened present, and it's covering.
"You got me a kitty! I love it!
"I believe it's called a Russian Blue, but I'll have to check that out for sure."
"Awww, he's got his bed, and food, and cage, and brush, and....babe?"
"What's the matter?"
"You got kitty litter?"
Elijah looks at her in disbelief, but forces a smile and chuckles.
"I love you, you know."
Lauren tightens her arms around his neck, and smiles until her cheeks almost wince in pain.
"I love you more."
(End)
Super cute!
